Speed Factor is a fun and addictive racing game; nothing overly complex, easy to pick up and play with a lot of content for an indie; the game’s total of 50 races across 5 regions will keep players busy for a bit. A lot of bang for your buck. You can suffer through the abysmal engine noise and the simplicity of it, you’ll find a new gem here; although a few extra game modes would’ve been a nice touch. But as it stands, Speed Factor is one of the best indie games I’ve played this year. If you’re looking for a relaxing racer, I highly recommend this game.

I was looking forward to giving Baki Hanma: Blood Arena a whirl; I loved Punch-Out!! back in the day, so I was happy to try this. And as much as I wanted to like it, it feels incredibly unforgiving with little to no margin for error. A single mistake can cost you the fight having you to restart over and over again. If you’re a gaming masochist looking for your next punishment, then Baki Hanma: Blood Arena is ripe for you. However, if you’re looking for an enjoyable gaming experience, this is an easy pass.

A Dream About Parking Lots is a truly unique game that is one of the shortest experiences I’ve played, one that you can finish in under an hour. I can’t describe this as a video game if I’m honest, it is more of an interactive process of thought with minimal gameplay. That said, I admire that the development team at Interactive Dreams has pushed out something that is a little out of the ordinary in the gaming space. At just £4.19, it isn’t going to break the bank, and if you fancy a casual walking sim that brings thoughts and feelings lost to the forefront, then it may be worth having a short blast with this.

I was actually looking forward to Pocket Bravery. I remember pre-ordering it like over two years ago when it was announced. But oh boy, the final result is highly disappointing. While the quantity of content is through the roof and is surprisingly as more diverse (if not more than) Street Fighter VI, the gameplay and feel of the game feels off and semi-responsive; complemented by cheap A.I.. Considering the price tag of this and high quality fighters available on Xbox, it’s hard to recommend Pocket Bravery.

Dreamcore is one of the best, most unique gaming experiences in this still early year. The unneasyness and creepyness relies on atmosphere instead of cheap and predictable scares. While you do know that nothing will jump up out of nowhere, your mind still thinks something is coming. But as you’d expect, it’s very light on gameplay, this is all about the overall experience and it does feel cheap to have only two levels out of the box. If you’re looking for something different than the typical horror games, Dreamcore is absolute must play.

Candle Knight is a decent Metroidvania style game. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, the unique combat adds a unique layer of strategy, albeit it does feel like it holds the game back and it’s a lazy way to avoid opting for a deeper combat system. If you’re a fan of the genre, I’d definitely recommend Candle Knight. If you’re looking to dabble in the genre however, I wouldn’t recommend this as your first experience.

Looney Tunes: Wacky World Of Sports is one of those games you’ll want to perhaps explore if you’re looking for options to play with your family with same-screen fun. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t feature any online multiplayer which I found a bit odd as this would have easily increased the longevity and replayability. Whilst the overall presentation of the game is very charming with characters I’ve grown up watching as a kid, the game does get stale very quickly. Playing alone allowed me to discover everything in just under an hour of gameplay which isn’t great for a game that is £39.99/£49.99 to purchase. That said, I did have a couple of hours of fun and laughs with my six-year-old. So whilst I recommend this as a game to factor in for time with younger ones, it doesn’t justify its high price tag in return for its content.

Horizon Chase 2 is definitely a must-play. It’s the best arcade racer since… well… its predecessor. It’s easy to pick up and play and can be hard to put down. Lots of content to unlock whether it be new rides or visuals styles. Whenever you need a change from racing sims or looking to give the racing genre a shot, Horizon Chase 2 is your best bet. Don’t miss out.

Unusual Findings is truly a special indie game, especially if you’re an 80’s kid like me. Playing this genuinely made me feel like I was back in my childhood era all over again. It is a fantastic success story of a three-man team who have created a stunning package which has it all. The voice acting is absolutely superb across the board with interesting engagements with likeable characters.
