Honestly, we hoped Renzo Racer would be the new Mario Kart, but sadly it isn’t. The game has a great character design, a raging soundtrack but the game is hampered by uninspired track design and very poor physics and controls. Those looking for a fun Mario Kart clone, but don’t mind it being in a very uncompleted stage might find Renzo Racer a fun title, but those looking for a polished experience should stay away from this title for the time being.

Neither its characters nor its circuits are enough to save Renzo Racer. There are some fundamental flaws in the way the game plays, and these are impossible to overcome for even the most endearing of casts. As such, it’s unlikely that Renzo Racer is going to be much of a home for anyone.

The most frustrating part is that these are the exact same problems I complained about two years ago with the Early Access build. Is it possible that the game I'm playing in 2019 is actually worse than the preview version from 2017? It's not that I expected Renzo Racer to be the next Mario Kart, but I'm thoroughly disappointed by the squandered potential. There are good elements here, but they are completely overshadowed by a generic kart racing game that is never fun to play.

Renzo Racer could have been worth a look if its handling had been greatly improved, its collision system wasn't a mess and its characters didn't have you terrified for your life. If those three simple things had been fixed we'd be recommending you fork out the $20 it asks of you. Instead, we recommend you put that money towards fitting a nice strong lock on your bedroom door in case Renzo ever finds out where you live.
