Ponpu on Xbox is a no-brainer. This is the quintessential multiplayer romp for the 2020 holiday season and is an absolute riot as a 4-player couch experience. Fortunately, there is also a robust online multiplayer option which offers plenty of entertainment as well. With instantly gratifying multiplayer game types and also a substantial single player mode to top it off, Ponpu combines entertaining gameplay with an excellent stylistic presentation like very few games can.

Ponpu is a great twist on a classic formula with just the right amount of oddness thrown into the mix. At least Purple Tree didn’t call Ponpu ‘Bomber Duck’ instead, as there’s far more to it than just the basic Bomberman formula. The bosses are well implemented and you’ll be satisfied with the iterative process necessary to beat them.

At an £11.99 -equivalent price point, Ponpu offers up plenty of quality content that is best consumed in short bursts. The Story Mode is a good place to get accustomed to the mechanics but loses steam after two or so hours (I wish there was just a boss-rush mode). On the other hand, the multiplayer modes remained entertaining no matter how matches I played, thanks to their short length and mix of chaotic and strategic gameplay.

Si buscas un juego divertido y sencillo para pasar el rato con amigos, Ponpu es una gran opción, se podría decir que está inspirada en un clásico como Bomberman, por lo que nos regresa en el tiempo.

En conclusión Ponpu nos ofrece una propuesta gamberra, desenfadada y ante todo divertida. Un videojuego que rememora a grandes clásicos de los videojuegos y sabe aportar un toque de identidad muy especial que lo hace convertirse en una de las mayores sorpresas de estos compases de finales de 2020 para nuestra PS4.

Ponpu, un sucesor espiritual de Bomberman, garantiza diversión a prueba de bombas en su multijugador local para cuatro personas. No atina tanto en su modo individual, con buenos jefes pero niveles insípidos y algo incómodos por su control. Una buena opción para reuniones sociales que además sorprende por sus atrevidos gráficos monocromos.

Considerando su bajo precio, el título del estudio argentino Purple Tree es un juego que definitivamente puede entregarte horas de diversión con amigos ya sea en local como en línea. Sin embargo, Ponpu tiene cosas que sin duda puede hacer mejor a la hora de entregar una experiencia completa.

Es gozoso no solo tener otro Bomberman 2D, sino que sea tan bonito y con una base tan bien planteada. No es algo nada fácil de conseguir, y por eso es una pena que la cosa no haya salido a la altura de esa base y diseño estético. Un modo historia que no es tan divertido como debería, y un multijugador que sí lo es, pero que pide más opciones y contenido. Pero Ponpu funciona y se merece la oportunidad.

El enlace matrimonial que tiene Nintendo Switch con los títulos indies está cada vez más reforzado y Ponpu es otra buena aportación a esta relación. Un título sencillo que brinda pequeñas dosis de diversión tanto en partidas solitarios como en compañía, y todo cubierto con esas mecánicas tan explosivas que beben directamente de Bomberman. Aunque Ponpu tiene bastante potencial en todo lo que plantea, finalmente se queda una joven promesa, por no saber innovarse o ir más allá en sus mecánicas, haciendo que el tiempo pueda ser su peor enemigo.

Ponpu es una apuesta interesante por parte de Purple Tree Studio, un Bomberman en toda regla que sustituye a los carismáticos cabezones de Hudson Soft por patos igual de cabezones. La principal diferencia es el uso del escudo para poder reflectar bombas, pero a grandes rasgos estamos ante una jugabilidad muy familiar que cualquier veterano o nostálgico sabrá dominar en cuestión de segundos. Si bien la campaña es flojilla y tediosa, los modos multijugador salvan la papeleta ofreciendo tres interesantes modalidades competitivas. Así que, si estabais deseando un juego de este estilo, echadle un vistazo, porque estos patos pueden alegraros más de una tarde.

Ponpu doesn’t always deliver in its gameplay department and it’s far from being the spiritual successor to Bomberman we actually aren’t in a desperate need of right now, but it’s still quite fun. What really makes the game stand out is its bizarre presentation, visuals and surprisingly catchy soundtrack. If you’re looking for something similar to Bomberman, and can put up with a bit of jank, then Ponpu is a game worth checking out. Also recommended if you’re into weird animations and imagery.

Ponpu is a decently fun Bomberman clone that has a distinct art style and some cool multiplayer modes. While the single-player content is nothing to write home about, you can definitely have a clucking good time with the right friends locally or online.

Die frühen Bomberman-Spiele sind verdiente Klassiker, und auch die neueren Teile machen noch Laune. Ponpu schafft es zumindest im Mehrspieler-Modus die chaotische Energie der Vorlage kompetent zu kopieren. Sehr angetan war ich beim ersten Mal Spielen von Ponpus handgezeichnetem Grafikstil. Leider hat man sich daran nach nicht allzu langer Zeit aufgrund der fehlenden Abwechslung schon sattgesehen. Mir fehlte es zudem, in der Kampagne Dinge entdecken und Goodies freischalten zu können, selbst solche kosmetischer Natur. Für nette Mehrspieler-Schlachten mit Freunden an geselligen Abenden wird Ponpu in Zukunft aber definitiv öfter mal herhalten.

Ponpu is weird, wacky and regularly wonderful. It’s a slick take on Bomberman that understands what made the original games so great and evolves it for the modern day. It’s a shame that the multiplayer modes are undermined by ineffective identifying marks that make it difficult to see who’s who. Thankfully a decent sized and suitably challenging single player campaign makes up for that.

With a gang of players, you’d more likely laugh ridiculously at the characters, the storyline, and gameplay of the story, and while the main singleplayer is a little pale in comparison to those more creative modes Ponpu is still just as unique and fun.

Ponpu consegue divertir um pouco, mas o modo história além de ser vazio e repetitivo, também trava constantemente. O multiplayer que deveria ser seu forte não entrega nada demais e perde na falta de personalizações de partidas, tirando todo e qualquer fator replay que pudesse existir.

Ponpu non è certamente un prodotto originale, e riesce a essere funzionale e divertente sia nella sua modalità single player che soprattutto in quella multiplayer. Purtroppo la poca quantità di contenuti e una storia dalla bassa longevità ne minano il successo, oltre a un porting non proprio ottimale che rovina l'esperienza complessiva dell'opera.

Ponpu no es un indie revolucionario, de esos pocos que llaman la atención a lo largo del año. Sin embargo, quisiera romper una lanza a favor de un título que, desde lo humilde de su propuesta, logra ofrecer una grata experiencia. En su pequeña escala, da a los jugadores horas y horas de diversión, puesto que no solo consta de un divertido modo historia con toques de humor. El multijugador también es muy divertido, y diría que es su mayor baza.

I really wanted to love Ponpu. The zany premise, delicious artwork, and Bomberman-inspired gameplay could have resulted in a triumphant indie classic. Instead, it was held back by glitches, occasionally sloppy game design, and a lack of real progress. But when you consider this was only the second time mobile developer Purple Tree tried their hand at consoles, I can moderate some of my frustration. If you’re a fan of Bomberman looking for something weird, then this still might be the game for you. As for myself, I find myself eagerly awaiting the next game from Purple Tree, and hoping it patches over any annoying imperfections.

Although I had fun playing Ponpu, it made me want to dive back into Bomberman as it isn't quite as satisfying as Hudson's classic.

Ponpu is one of those games that should primarily be bought for its great multiplayer mode. Even though a lack of bots to play against is a downer, it makes for a great party game and delightfully competitive romp online. Its campaign, conversely, is nothing too special or exciting, and just feels like dead weight to bloat up the price. At least it runs and plays mostly well on the Switch. The whole thing isn’t completely scrambled, but it’s not quite as hard boiled as it hopes to be.

Ponpu es una recomendación para quienes busquen una alternativa para revivir la gloria (aunque a medias) de Bomberman, sin embargo, esta será solo por ratos cortos de diversión, en un paquete que estéticamente es muy cautivador para la vista. Cuenta con un buen “fun factor” que puede durar un muy corto tiempo, mismo que se detiene por un auto impuesto “techo de cristal”.

Ponpu begon veelbelovend: wacky verhaal en een uitstekende grafische stijl; wat meer kan je wensen voor een indie? De game had met z’n Bomberman-achtige gameplay en prima artwork het potentieel om een classic te worden, maar de developer schoot toch te kort op het vlak van gameplay. Ben je een die-hard fan van Bomberman en ben je op zoek naar iets unieks en vreemds, geef Ponpu zeker een kans. Als de game ooit op Game Pass terecht komt, geef Ponpu dan zeker eens een kans.
