Bloodious Games has been developing MADiSON since 2016, and it’s incredible to see a project of this magnitude come to fruition from a team of only two people. MADiSON creates a harrowing experience for fans to feast on, with its outstanding atmospheric tension, eccentric camera mechanic, and psychedelic puzzles. Apart from being a horror game, it also showcases some truly artistic stages and mythos. There are some beautiful landscapes to explore and investigate as you plunge into a spiral of insanity. After all, you are the Mad Son.

As someone who plays horror titles as often as I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there have been few titles to truly give me a scare, but MADiSON is one that has delivered in every aspect. It’s not often you’ll find me raving about a near-perfect horror game but for me, this one may well be up there for me as one of the best horror titles available hands down, and without a doubt one of the best titles of 2022.

Un juegazo con mayusculas, para amantes del terror psicológico y sobre todo de los puzzles. Puzzles de piezas, de pensar, de sumar o restar, de prestar atencion a dibujos, numeros, cuentos , notas….todo absolutamente TODO en este juego cuenta. A veces para bien y otras para mal, pero eso tendréis que averiguarlo vosotros mismos.

MADiSON is consistent, and that’s one of the key factors in a great horror game. A lot of games tend to struggle with a sluggish second act after an incredible opener or fall off in the final act, but that does not happen here. The puzzles remain a delight to solve, the tension never eases up, and just when you think you’re safe, a light will flicker, and you’ll catch a glimpse of the monster and you’ll need to change your pants. Beyond this, the story and lore is disturbing on a true crime level and manages to maintain its pacing. Suffice it to say, MADiSON is an unnerving, unsettling, and truly terrifying experience.

Madison review - a spine-tingling psychological horror with a deliciously demonic story and a palpably tense atmosphere, Madison is an all-out spooky vibe fest. It makes great use of both its polaroid camera and puzzle elements, all carried by a perfectly paced plot full of chilling secrets and morbid mysteries. Fans of the genre would be mad to miss it.

Ultimately, if you love horror games, in particular P.T., simply know that you need to play MADiSON. This is the best pure horror game in years, shredding the nerves of even the most brave of souls. It can be a little frustrating when you get stuck on a devious puzzle, but when you finally find the solution it’s very rewarding. No game has horrified us quite as much as this debut from Bloodious. We just hope the studio is ready to follow up with something else even scarier.

Summary: MADiSON is an astounding success in the horror genre, especially for someone who doesn’t play many horror games (me). The game was well put together and delivered on the spooks, however some puzzles are rough to figure out and could have been a little less obscure.

MADiSON es la prueba de lo que dos desarrolladores dedicados pueden llegar a crear; un ambicioso juego de terror que nos pondrá los pelos de punta, incluso a los fanáticos más valientes. Con mecánicas innovadoras y una excelente ambientación gracias a sus cuidados apartados gráficos y sonoros, MADiSON nos ofrecerá una experiencia inmersiva en la que en ningún momento nos sentiremos seguros, pero con una historia intrigante que nos motivará a descubrir todos sus secretos.

De lejos, el juego que más pavor nos ha hecho pasar en mucho tiempo. Como aventura ofrece puzzles muy interesantes, a pesar de ciertas trabas en el control.

Disponible para todas las plataformas (y próximamente en Nintendo Switch), MADiSON es muy continuista. Es el desenlace de la década pasada del género, pero eso no lo detiene de ser una experiencia superadora. Así como Elden Ring o Returnal superaron las expectativas y sentaron las bases de lo que será la generación para su género, creo que MADiSON hace lo propio para el terror. Habrá que esperar la llegada de otros nombres fuertes como The Callisto Protocol, pero tranquilamente podría ser el mejor juego de terror del año y es el piso para todo lo que vendrá en los próximos meses. Por lo pronto, creo que va a pasar mucho tiempo hasta que deje de tener miedo de sacar una foto.

If you’re hankering for a decent horror experience that will give you the willies and challenge your puzzle-solving skills, then MADiSON is for you. If you’re sick of jumpscares in horror games, then consider taking a break cause they’re not going anywhere. If you don’t play horror games and wanna prove to your friend that you’re indeed a hardcore gamer, well…

MADiSON es uno de los juegos más terroríficos de los últimos años. Gracias a su genial ambientación, liderada por unos buenos gráficos y un sonido espectacular, así como su sombría historia, genera momentos de tensión poco vistos en el género. Habrá momentos en los que tendrás que pausar el juego, avanzar mirando a otro lado de la pantalla o simplemente desconectar debido al elevado nivel de miedo que puede producir. A pesar de ello merece la pena superar esta experiencia, ya que hay situaciones muy buenas y que sin duda recordarás durante tiempo. Si eres de los que les gusta dar la vuelta en un pasillo con los ojos entrecerrados o bajar las escaleras al oscuro sótano con una mano delante por temor a lo que viene, sin duda MADiSON te encantará. Prepárate para tener pesadillas.

MADiSON tiene un par de detalles cuestionables como el uso de jumpscares en algunos sitios, sin embargo para ser el primer juego de Bloodious Games es una grata sorpresa para fans del terror psicológico. En más de una ocasión, me sentí aterrada, a pesar de estar abrazando a mi novia para no gritar tanto (y espantar a los vecinos). Si te quedaste esperando que P.T. de Silent Hill llegase a completarse, este título puede ser una suerte de solución. El misterio que envuelve el juego y la manera en que está contada, te mantendrá haciendo teorías al respecto durante varias noches.

Personalmente y siendo lo más auténtico posible, os digo que hay algunos segmentos donde se hace difícil seguir Madison porque el nivel de tensión y miedo es muy elevado. Consigue muy bien que sientas que no tienes controlada la situación y no ver los patrones que reducen esta sensación, al menos durante la mayor parte de la aventura, pero merece la pena superar la experiencia, ya que tiene varios momentos muy conseguidos y que sin duda recordaremos durante mucho tiempo. Por supuesto, abstenerse los asustadizos y débiles de espíritu porque no lo pasarán nada bien.

Un juego escalofriante, salpicado por algunos problemas técnicos, pero en definitiva tan recomendable para los amantes del terror como evitable por el resto.

Overall, MADiSON is shaping up to be a winner in terms of creating an intense environment with an intriguingly devilish storyline, all encased in the hyperrealistic visuals that sell the image of pure evil. Like Visage, it does take some time to come to grips with some of the puzzles, and the absence of any real threat in the beta reduces the terror to some extent. However, it has all the hallmarks of a great horror title.

MADiSON is one of the most terrifying horror games I have played in the past few years. Unfortunately, it is held back from true greatness by some of its presentation and tedious sections. I can understand that for many it might rely a little too heavily on jumpscares, but I would argue that many of them are still very effective. MADiSON provides a relentless barrage of horror that few games can really compete with.

MADiSON channels the best instalments of the first-person horror genre to deliver a frantic, nerve-shredding and atmospheric tale of demonic possession. It delivers the scares often and will have you tentatively looking over your shoulder at that shadow that definitely wasn’t there before. It’s been a while since I felt this much trepidation moving through a cursed home, but it feels frighteningly good to test this demonic presence again. A must play for horror fans this year.

Benché l’ispirazione a P.T. fosse addirittura palese, cosa che di certo poteva far sorgere dei dubbi sulla personalità del titolo, MADiSON si qualifica come un fiero esponente della sua categoria. Tutt’altro che priva di identità, grazie a scelte di design che conferiscono al gameplay un certo magnetismo orrorifico, la produzione firmata Bloodious Games si distingue fra i suoi congeneri senza troppe difficoltà. Le atmosfere curate e suggestive, così come la narrazione centellinata - mai scontata anche al netto di un ricorsivo utilizzo dei topoi dell’horror psicologico - fanno del viaggio di Luca un incubo viscerale e irresistibile, con una messa in scena che vi catapulterà nei più profondi recessi dell'occulto e della paura. Merito anche di un’ottima intuizione come quella della fotocamera, il cui impiego crea un sostrato di tensione efficace e pervasivo. Anche al netto di alcune incertezze che afferiscono al comparto tecnico, insomma, ci sentiamo di consigliare MADiSON a tutti gli amanti del genere.

Madison VR is derivative, some of the puzzles have annoyingly obscure solutions and there really should be more VR comfort options, but the foreboding atmosphere and genuine frights more than make up for this. Put on your PSVR 2, plug in the earphones and get ready to have the bejesus scared out of you.

MADiSON è l’ennesimo horror psicologico in prima persona che tenta di recuperare una formula ormai resa celebre – e paradossalmente mai davvero messa in pratica del tutto – dalla demo di P.T. di Hideo Kojima. L’offerta è conservativa, l’esito prevedibile, l’innovazione purtroppo ai minimi termini. Ma questo non significa che sia un’esperienza da ignorare, anzi: per quello che vuole offrire, si tratta anzi di un prodotto solidissimo, piacevole, lodevolmente interessante dal punto di vista della trama e anche arguto per quanto riguarda enigmi e puzzle ambientali. Se vi piace questa tipologia di horror, allora MADiSON è a conti fatti un acquisto imprescindibile: l’importante è che non vi aspettiate da lui soluzioni che non può in alcun modo, per sua stessa natura, offrire. Discreto anche il comparto grafico e tecnico, meno il sonoro. Adesso afferrate la macchina fotografica istantanea e… buona fortuna.

MADiSON è un buon titolo horror, soprattutto grazie ai suoi enigmi mai banali, che richiamano quelli delle avventure grafiche classiche, più che dei titoli all'Amnesia. Quindi aspettatevi di dover ragionare un po' sul da farsi e di dover risolvere degli enigmi che richiedono un bel po' di pensiero laterale, oltre che di capacità di osservazione. Peccato per i problemi elencati nella recensione, che non gli consentono di raggiungere l'eccellenza cui avrebbe potuto ambire.

MADiSON è uno degli horror indie più riusciti dell'ultimo periodo, e sebbene non riesca a raggiungere la stessa qualità di Visage, propone soluzioni sempre efficaci e puzzle per nulla banali. Dalla seconda parte in poi abusa un po' troppo di jumpscare non necessari, e presenta inoltre un paio di sezioni non esattamente convincenti. Tuttavia, il lungo lavoro degli sviluppatori (durato un lustro) ha dato vita a un frutto malevolo e succoso, dove le suggestioni del paranormale e le più torbide conseguenze della malignità che alberga in noi si uniscono in una trama che ci ha trascinati e incuriositi dall'inizio alla fine.

MADiSON te hace sentir como en una cinta de terror, gracias a una ambientación a la altura de su experiencia, repleta de detalles a lo largo de una casa encantada, que cuenta con una serie de puzles con los que tratará también de desafiarte. Intenta hacerse hueco dentro de un género, que cada vez tiene más participantes, y a nuestro juicio logra conseguirlo, pese a que su argumento, e incluso el desarrollo de los acontecimientos, no sean lo más ambicioso del conjunto.

MADiSON is a solid, polished indie horror game. It struggles with pacing because of the mechanics involved with the puzzles. For collectors and completionists, you may find some replay value as you can collect camera skins and special photos.

MADiSON is a genuinely terrifying psychological horror game and does its job very well, making it stand out in the genre on Nintendo’s hybrid platform. Unfortunately, this is dragged down by the poor inventory system and unclear puzzle direction, causing far too much backtracking. Aside from these gripes, MADiSON expertly uses every tool at its disposal to unsettle you and create a horrifying experience I am keen to return to again.

Despite my misgivings, Madison still offers a respectable evening of frights and is worth a look for fans of psychological horror. It succeeds in building tension and puzzle variety, stumbling when it becomes obsessed with bamboozling players with head-tilting solutions and stopping their hearts with lame jump scares. But when the game hits right, you’ll be glad no one caught the look on your face.

Madison is a creepy crawl through a twisted haunted house with enough genuine out-of-your-seat scares to leave you shaken like a Polaroid picture.

Although the story doesn't deliver anything fresh, it serves the game well and provides a platform for the game's excellent design and well-crafted horror. Go into MADiSON without any pretense of a groundbreaking story to find a terrifying journey through the minds of pained and neglected killers. Overall, MADiSON is a great first game by a new developer and is sure to provide plenty of scares.

If you're a fan of horror games that focus more on atmosphere and scares rather than combat, then MADiSON is a no-brainer. It's not the most original game and it mostly follows the lead of pioneers like the aforementioned Outlast or even Hideo Kojima's P.T, but that doesn't matter. What you've got here is an effective horror experience regardless, and one that you're going to enjoy from start to finish.

Madison does so much well that it makes genre tropes succeed. From atmosphere to execution, this short horror romp takes you and doesn't let go. It's not without issues, with one progression point halfway through the game lacking the kind of intention and care that the rest of the game receives. Then there's the save corrupting error. However, once that error gets patched out, Madison will have the complete package worthy of anyone up for a good scare.

All in all, MADiSON is a good game but a mediocre horror. I have some serious issues with it, but I can’t dismiss the potential. I believe the next game will be able to compete with Visage, and I’m already waiting for it impatiently.

MADiSON non è senza dubbio il primo titolo horror in cui mi sono trovato a usare una macchina fotografica (mi viene in mente ad esempio il recente e godibilissimo Martha is Dead) e non presenta un gameplay originale ma piuttosto un tentativo abbozzato di volersi differenziare dalla massa con alcuni escamotage, uno su tutti l’inventario limitato e l’uso della cassaforte. Tuttavia il lavoro di Bloodious Games presenta buoni enigmi e una trama a tratti intrigante, seppur non pienamente convincente. Onestamente non mi sento di consigliare questo titolo a chi vuole avvicinarsi al genere delle avventure horror in prima persona, poiché ci sono tanti altri lavori decisamente più meritevoli di MADiSON. Tuttavia, se amate l’horror psicologico\paranormale e i jumpscare, qui troverete pane per i vostri denti. Attenzione però alla durata esigua dell’esperienza di gioco, allungabile giusto tramite backtracking e completismo sfrenato.

A fun game and concept with a specific audience. The issues with the brightness and layout knocked it down a few points. But the overall graphics and uniqueness still made MADiSON a fairly enjoyable experience.

Maybe you'll find something to like if you've never played a horror game like this before, but for anyone well-versed in the genre, the ground MADiSON covers is very well-worn.

MADiSON is a psychological horror game without any psychological horror. It has jump scares galore, and at least on PC, it’s also a completely broken mess for me before launch. I’d advise taking a wait-and-see approach for both PC and Console due to all of these issues. Priced at $35.99 US it’s a steep cost for something that isn’t very good even when it’s working. If you love yourself a good horror game I’d give this one a little time post-launch, and take a look at it eventually on a deep sale.
