Dicefolk is a very fun roguelite that while it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it presents enough novelties to feel fresh within the genre and keep us hooked for hours. Read review

Dicefolk is a cracking monster battling Roguelike, with seriously clever combat unlike anything else I’ve ever played. The different strategies you can implement to make a synergistic team of destruction always feel sensational, and there’s enough content for you to be playing it for the rest of the year. It’s hard to make time for games given how busy 2024 is already, but Dicefolk is a game you need to fit into your schedule. Read review

Dicefolk junta todo lo que me gusta de los RPG. Colección de monstruos, construcción de equipos en torno a la sinergia entre sus miembros, secuenciación... Si cualquiera de estos elementos os llama la atención, os merecéis probar este juego. Read review

Dicefolk is an intriguing take on the roguelike that gives you an unprecedented level of control over everything, and still makes you sweat in battle. It's cute, the replayability is very high, and it's got some fun progression unlocks as well. Definitely grab it if you're a turn-based roguelike person. Read review

In short, Dicefolk stands out in an otherwise stale and saturated genre by having one of the most addictive combat systems I’ve seen in a long time. Shockingly enough, that was what I liked the most about it, and not the monster collecting elements. Those were there, and worked wonders, but were quite minute at the end of the day. With a lot of content and reasons to replay each map multiple times, this game won me over after expecting nothing from it. Don’t ignore this one. It might be yet another turn-based roguelite, but this one’s got more care put into it than literally dozens upon dozens of competitors. Read review

Dicefolk is an excellent new addition to the enormous roguelite genre that manages to feel fresh without getting too far away from the core ideas that make these sorts of games so addictive and popular. An attractive art style, strong combat system, and meaningful player choices make this one a brilliant addition to the library for anyone looking for another great roguelite on Switch. Even if you aren’t typically a fan of this genre, we’d suggest you at least consider this as a possible entry point. Dicefolk is approachable without being patronizing and it’s tons of fun once you get a grasp of its various quirks. Read review

Dicefolk is an excellent game that takes full advantage of the Switch. It is challenging but balances that out with giving the player full control over every turn - both their and their opponent's actions. Progression can feel a little skewed towards the luck of what upgrades you get offered run to run; but there is so much you can control to help guide your fate. If the game boiled down to a roll of the die; well, you can even upgrade the faces of that as well. Read review

As a fan of roguelites and turn-based combat games, Dicefolk surprised me very positively, quickly becoming an adventure that I would easily recommend to anyone who also enjoys these genres. Although some aspects such as the narrative and the relationship with the Chimeras are underused, it is difficult not to engage with its innovative combat system, especially given the vast number of possible combinations in each new game.

Read review

As a fan of the rogue-like and monster catcher genres, Dicefolk is a treat. But while I love the design and enjoy the overall gameplay, the challenge could desperately use some retuning. But if you’re a glutton for punishment and don’t mind a ton of grinding, in that case, I can wholeheartedly recommend this challenging hybrid. Read review

With fun turn-based combat, enough strategy development and random elements outside of combat, and a decent primary objective, Dicefolk refines an existing genre to make something both unique and recognizable. Dicefolk isn’t just for genre fans, it’s a very enjoyable game all around, especially if you dig turn-based combat. Read review

Overall, Dicefolk has put significant effort into creating something unique by being hand-drawn and utilising dice-rolling combat. With replayability and strategy at heart with a vast number of items and beasts to tame this game will likely be a hit, as it drew me in for hours. Whether you want to play casually or like a pro, there is a spot for everyone in this fascinating title. I can’t wait to see where this game goes. May the dice be in your favour! Read review

Dicefolk gets a lot right, and the developers clearly thought hard about how to take a fundamentally dice-based game, and make something that players could enjoy as a tactical roguelike, where randomness does not result in frustrating failures. However, Dicefolk is, ultimately, a pastiche with very little of its own creative identity, and I do think this is going to limit its audience to only the most hardcore Slay the Spire fans. But, then again, it’s not my job to worry about the commercial viability of a game. For those who simply cannot get enough of roguelikes, Dicefolk is yet another one for you to play. Dicefolk puts an interesting twist on classic ideas. Controlling both dice sets in combat creates cool challenges and gives players options to deal with powerful enemies. There’s also plenty of variety, powered by tokens and items, to create personalized strategies and find novel ways of engaging with bosses. Read review

Even though its overarching story world could be fleshed out further, Dicefolk offers a refreshing take on the roguelike formula. Thanks to its combat mechanics, dice system, and variety of chimeras and equipment, gameplay is varied and complex while still being accessible to newcomers. Added to this, the feature of customising different dice allows players to tailor their dice according to their personal tastes and playstyle, making Dicefolk a good fit for both casual and more hard-core roguelike fans. Dicefolk has truly amazing combat that makes great use of its rotation and dice mechanics, and it's bolstered by a ton of impressive designs in the Chimeras, each packing their own skills that are fun to experiment with as you craft your dream team and playstyle. Unfortunately, the lack of any interesting story hinders the experience and can easily leave you wanting more. Still, as long as you desire a unique spin on the traditional creature-collecting formula and the battles associated with it, Dicefolk can still be worth checking out, even if the odds of you enjoying the game for longer periods may boil down to a dice roll. Dicefolk offers a unique experience with its dice mechanics and distinct cultural flair, but it fails to leave a lasting impact. The inconsistent creature design and lack of emotional depth due to the questionable combination of Monster Collector and roguelite hurt the experience. In the end, the title is interesting, but it won't stick in your memory. Read review
