Nostalgia is the fuel that powers Top Racer Collection, and in that regard, it succeeds at providing a lot for your retro buck if you’re looking to take a trip down memory lane and enjoy the best that there was in 16-bit wheel to wheel racing. Frankly, I would’ve loved to see more bonus material in the form of design docs and other knick knacks and emulation options, as they would make this more historically valid as some other compilations.

Top Racer Collection had a simple task: make a landmark of the racing genre accessible to everyone. But what was seen goes further, showing that the franchise's three decades of life received due care and great current resources to bring together fans of Top Gear, I mean, Top Racer, across the globe.

As a proposition in this day and age, Top Racer Collection is not a Forza or GT7 beater, but it isn’t meant to be. For gamers of a certain era, this is an easy sale, as the nostalgia is strong. For everyone else? The gameplay may be a little too simple. However, with four distinct games to go at, there is a lot of content, and I’m a big fan of what has been achieved here. Really, you should be giving Top Racer Collection a bit of a whirl, left to embrace the nostalgia. 

The Top Racer Collection features a lot of the same core gameplay across its four titles, but each of them excels at what it does. Those craving something new in the arcade racing realm who missed out on the series in its 16-bit heyday should check this out. Anyone who loved Outrun or has enjoyed Horizon Chase Turbo or '80s Overdrive as more modern homages to this franchise will have a blast with each entry. It's fascinating to have all of the early games in one collection and see the evolution from the earliest entries into the later ones, with new Crossroads content making it easy to hope for a new full-on Top Racer game down the line.

Top Racer Collection is a great way to reminisce about the past. In addition to bringing the trilogy, the collection also adds online, extra modes, and even a modified game. However, it's an expensive bundle on PlayStation, and personally, it's a collection that basically sustains itself through the first title.

For those who grew up in the 90s with a SNES and were able to play Top Racer, the Top Racer Collection is a great gift. Featuring three fun racing games, several resolution options, including the option to replicate CRT effects, as well as additional modes and splitscreen and online multiplayer, the collection will please fans of classic racing games.

Si no lo eres, el paso del tiempo y las escasas mejoras técnicas seguramente hacen que no sea la mejor opción dentro del nicho retro de carreras. Aún así, si moderamos las expectativas, estamos ante un auténtico clásico, com una BSO espectacular, siempre divertido y que te servirá para desconectar con algunas partidas rápidas.

En fin, fuera del framerate inestable, el cuarto juego que en realidad no es un cuarto juego, y las opciones de personalización hechas a medias, no se puede negar que los fans de “Top Racer” (o como quieran llamar a la saga) encontrarán mucho para disfrutar en esta compilación. Igual tenemos los tres juegos que recordarán sus infancias, con todas sus fortalezas y debilidades, tanto a nivel visual como de gameplay. Si todo lo que quieren es revivir los buenos tiempos, en HD y con ciertas opciones de personalización (aunque algo básicas), entonces “Top Racer Collection” es una buena opción. No encontrarán nada más complejo, pero a veces, no necesitamos nada más complejo. A veces, solo queremos algo familiar y entretenido, por más de que tenga otro nombre.

Anyone looking to revisit the Top Racer series will have a blast with this collection. The racing remains fluid and engrossing. Having all three games here means players can see how the series evolved over time, although Top Racer Crossroads feels more like tweak on existing content rather than something wholly new. Online multiplayer is a welcome addition whilst autosaves and save states makes individual races easier to repeat. I don't think the new menus combine well with the older graphics but the effort that's gone into this product is pretty commendable.

Top Racer Collection es una lección a las generaciones actuales pero no precisamente de forma positiva. Si hablamos sobre el trato que se le debe dar a juegos considerados clásicos -y de culto en Latinoamérica-, hay muchas decisiones refutables. Solo las pistas de los juegos originales son utilizadas, lo demás en cada uno es desechado y reemplazado por menús genéricos. Crossroads, promocionado como un cuarto juego completamente nuevo, es solo el primer Top Gear con cuatro autos de Horizon Chase, nada más. El 'online' de la compilación resulta vacío y sin jugadores. Los extras son escasos y no se ve mucho esfuerzo por rendir tributo a la otrora gran saga Top Gear. La trilogía sigue siendo excelente, pero merecía más cuidado su tratamiento actual.

Top Racer Collection nos devuelve las carreras que nos enamoraron en el pasado. Con una jugabilidad basada en las máquinas recreativas y un modo historia complejo, todas las entregas de esta saga nos regalan horas de diversión y competición.

Top Racer Collection is a solid compilation for fans of the Top Gear trilogy on SNES, but the originals' lower frame rate can really affect the action at high speeds. Nostalgics will find that everything is as it should be, and there's still plenty of fun to be had, but those without emotional ties to the series will want to go for the newer, better model instead and buy Horizon Chase Turbo.

Top Racer Collection is a fantastic way for fans to relive the long-forgotten Top Gear games in one single package. Even i the games themselves didn’t exactly age very well, they have garnered a monstrous fanbase for a reason. There’s fun to be had with these dated, but iconic racing games, in a remastered effort that keeps the important bits intact, whilst updating menus and interface options to a more acceptable standard.

A fun, often affectionate trip down memory lane: big on content and charm, but held back by rough edges.

Top Racer Collection es una buena forma de traer de vuelta clásicos de los noventa a la actualidad. Incluyen muchas mejoras que hacen que estos título funcionen a la perfección en televisores 4k. Algo que parece menor, pero no, si tenemos en cuenta que son juegos pensados para tecnologías, como el CRT, que ahora mismo nos parecen prehistorias.  Sin embargo, más allá de realizar un port, esperábamos algo más de QUByte Interactive.  Sobre todo, si tenemos en cuenta que gente como AQUARIS, creadores Horizon Chase Turbo han realizado auténticas maravillas en forma de tributo a estos legendarios títulos.

The Top Racer Collection is a neat collection of the first three Top Racer games and an addition of a new game. It preserves the original games quite well and includes a wonderful soundtrack. The new menus fit less with the style of the games, but the gameplay is still fun to pick up. The improvements are minimal, but with the addition of online multiplayer this makes the game more future-proof. The collection is two tens of euros and that feels quite pricey, but if you come across the game in a sale then I would definitely give this collection a chance.

The value proposition here, especially considering how many solid racers there are on Switch that have a retro feel but more modern performance, feels like a very narrow one. If you’ve always been a fan of these titles, an opportunity to enjoy them once again on a modern system is no doubt compelling… and to the credit of the people putting this together they’ve done more than just churn out a bare bones port of the games with minimal additional work. That said, if you’re either unfamiliar or weren’t sold on these games back in the day they’re very much a product of their time, and have some unsurprising warts that remain authentically in place as they were originally. Depending on your connection to the originals, I think the consensus on this one will vary pretty wildly.

While I don’t doubt fans of these SNES racers will enjoy seeing them again, to anyone else they’re likely a mess

Top Racer Collection does what it says on the box, it contains the three SNES games from the series, pretty much unchanged. The collection provides the bare-bones quality-of-life options that are usually expected including changing screen size and playing with filters. Some new gameplay options such as online play are present as well. Unfortunately, given the number of better alternatives in this genre, both past and modern, this collection is a bit of a hard sell. However, I acknowledge that the series does have a huge following in some parts of the world, and for those that simply want to play Top Racer again, in their original form and on modern consoles, then this collection will sort them out.
