Mexican Ninja does not need to be perfect to be enjoyable. Its best ideas work together surprisingly well. The combat gives you a reason to keep moving, the upgrades give you a reason to keep experimenting, and the permanent progression gives you a reason to start another run after a defeat.

But as a whole, it felt like a great beat’em’up that doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s intense, you can repeat the experience and make it slightly different, and the combat always feels very good.

Ultimately, Mexican Ninja is a fascinating curio. Its setting is interesting, and its humor lands in both good and bad ways. The beat-'em-up mechanics are solid and fun, even if some enemy tactics can make the game feel unfair at times. The roguelike elements give the experience some legs while also feeling like a natural fit for a genre traditionally built around games that can be completed in an hour or two. The presentation is solid, and while the lack of co-op may turn off players who expect beat-'em-ups to be multiplayer experiences, those willing to go it alone will find plenty to enjoy.

Mexican Ninja is a surprisingly good time, full of combos, upgrades, and a funny, wonderful art direction that will keep players saying "one more run." It also helps that the setting is extremely unique, constantly making you look around the world, ask yourself, "Do Japan and Mexico go together?", and then tell yourself, "Yes, they do!" I recommend checking out Mexican Ninja if you like beat-'em-ups or just roguelikes in general!

Mexican Ninja’s satisfying combat and art style are worth more than its low price of admission. Its standout thematic is a great start to hopefully something more from the Madbricks crew, even if some of its roguelike elements feel underdeveloped.

Mexican Ninja's fast combat, meaningful roguelike progression, and ridiculous personality make it an easy recommendation for beat-'em-up fans, despite cluttered levels and repetitive enemies.

Mexican Ninja is a fun and solid experience—well-suited for those seeking pure action and plenty of personality—even though it bears the limitations typical of an indie title.

Mexican Ninja hits the mark, presenting itself as a fresh and irreverent beat 'em up, perfect for those seeking an old-school experience enhanced by modern roguelike progression. While it doesn't reinvent the genre and shows some limitations in long-term variety, the adventure created by Madbricks entertains with intelligence and charm, offering several hours of genuine fun.

Fun in short bursts, chaotic at heart, and always ready for a fight. Mexican Ninja delivers fast, colourful fun with punchy combat and a world full of personality. Its upgrade systems and chaotic style keep things engaging, even when the repetition starts to creep in. It’s an easy game to enjoy in short bursts, and while a few missed opportunities hold it back, there’s still plenty of charm and energy for anyone who loves a lively beat ’em up.

I expected more from a game called Mexican Ninja yes, I was given a Mexican ninja to control but I was really hoping that the developers would lean into the complete wackiness of the story and its characters.

With more focused and consistent combat, Mexican Ninja could rank among the most memorable modern beat 'em ups. Little is truly annoying, but moments where the gameplay impresses are also rare.

Mexican Ninja is fun — fun enough to buy and spend a weekend on debaucherous violence, cultural humor, and ninja heroics. It’s a scrappy indie game that certainly could have been better, but defiantly and confidently stands among peers offering things they cannot. It’s respectable if nothing else. Genre purists will vibe with it, as this would have killed in the 90s with its irreverent tone, but if you’re expecting the next Absolum, this is the wrong juego for you, hermano.

The Mexican Ninja experience is literally a missed opportunity. From what I played, the game's quality as a game is very good and would have undoubtedly achieved a high rating, but its completely unacceptable technical state made the overall experience extremely bad. In its current state, I do not recommend it at all, ever.
