Nicktoons & the Dice of Destiny feels a little like Baby's First Diablo at times, but it's a surprisingly good take on the ARPG genre, suitable for kids and adults alike. Filled with familiar Nickelodeon characters, and packed with humour (and loot!), there's a lot to like.

I'd imagine a lot of people going to this with '90s or '00s Nick nostalgia in their eyes could leave a little disappointed due to the overall simplicity, but this is an action RPG for the younger sect. More specifically, it's an action RPG for adults with said nostalgia (and maybe some love for Diablo-esque games) to play with their children. It's a serviceable dungeon crawler with a lot of love for the Nicktoons involved that is super cute and playful.

A strong, enjoyable launch that captures the charm of its roster and offers satisfying couch co‑op, engaging combat, and meaningful progression. Minor polish and balance issues remain, but the game delivers consistent fun for groups and mixed‑skill parties.

The $50 price tag is only going to apply to diehard Nickelodeon fans. Casual gamers aren’t going to get a ton of enjoyment. If the levels had more going on, or the price was closer to $20, Dice of Destiny would have been an easy recommend. In its current state, it’s a good game at best.

For the kids at heart, it’s not necessarily as involved as a standard RPG, but for training their kids for a lifelong love of gaming, Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is a fantastic place to start.

Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is loaded with nostalgia, callbacks to famous scenes and lines, but ultimately isn't as good as it could be. The limited fantasy setting, monotonous combat and underwhelming world map are helped slightly by its wonderfully authentic voices and fun story. If you grew up watching these cartoons, chances are you'll be charmed by the respect paid to them like I was, but find that the quest itself is not quite as good as just watching your favorite episodes again.

I feel like Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is meant for a very, very specific target audience: you need to a) have been a big fan of Nicktoons about 15-20 years ago, b) have grown up and become a huge fan of Diablo and other similar ARPGs, and c) now have kids of your own that you’re trying to make into fans of both Diablo and Spongebob, TMNT, and other cartoons from that very specific point in time.

Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny does have entertainment value to it, especially for a younger audience, but those looking for a nostalgic trip revisiting Nickelodeon characters might be a bit disappointed due to how basic the gameplay and levels are. There are also technical hitches that need to be addressed.

Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is the kind of crossover you’ll want to love more than you actually do. It’s ambitious and full of personality, but bogged down by repetition, weak writing, and uneven gameplay that never quite rolls in its favor.
