But they’re not even the best bits. What Lies in the Multiverse has such a knack for character and visual comedy that you’ll be in danger of lacking concentration in the puzzles because you’re grinning so much.

What Lies in the Multiverse is a delightful indie experience that any retro fan will get a kick out of. While it may be a one-time playthrough with low replay value, it’s a title that excels in its nostalgic presentation. It’s got great characters, lovable writing, fun gameplay, and old-school graphics with a modern touch. Pixelated graphics with an engaging story don’t get better than this little adventure.

Το What Lies In The Multiverse,

What Lies in the Multiverse is one of the most unique puzzle/platformers released in recent years. Featuring gorgeous pixel-based graphics and a charmingly self-aware sense of humor, the game constantly throws a variety of new set pieces and obstacles at you and continues to find clever ways to use its central universe swapping mechanic. Despite some unexpectedly dark undertones, the game remains mainly upbeat, telling a story that deals with loss, friendship, and life in a surprisingly mature way. What Lies in the Multiverse is well worth picking up for fans of puzzle based games.

What Lies in the Multiverse is a pretty good platformer with an interesting story that grabs you pretty quickly, a nice-sounding soundtrack, and an interesting concept that all work together better than I imagined it would. If you like anything about what I just said about it, you should play it!

Overall, I enjoyed What Lies in the Multiverse and feel like most people will as well. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you about some of the game’s punishing puzzles, especially the timing-based platforming ones. If you have popsicle fingers like I do, I wish you the best of luck working your way through the game, because you’re going to need it.

A gorgeous pixel art style mixed with solid puzzles and a satisfying story, What Lies in the Multiverse is a fantastic puzzle platformer. Decent gameplay and a story that takes a little over 6 hours to complete, there is a lot here to love - provided you can overlook the text-heavy story and overlong cutscenes.

What Lies in the Multiverse is a hilariously dark puzzle-platform adventure title. Can you flit between dimensions while solving every puzzle you encounter? Flip switches, slide on ice, push boxes, and more in this colourful and amusing indie game.

I can see What Lies in the Multiverse becoming a well liked puzzle game for a wider audience with just a little bit of exposure, and I hope it does. It’s got the heart, the mechanics are simple but solid, and the handling allows for enjoyment even on the Nintendo Switch. It never reaches the level of complexity that I found with Braid or Fez, but it kept the narration moving in a way that let me dive into the puzzles while still feeling satisfied and activated. There’s apparently a hidden ending, so I need to go back, check out my collection and figure out what I forgot to pick up along the way. The main ending is satisfactory and ticks off all the boxes, but I’m curious what else could be hiding beneath the surface. After all, there are so many facets to the multiverse…

The biggest complaint I had for What Lies in the Multiverse is the short runtime. In spite of potential endless gameplay, the whole thing has just a few hours to go from start to finish, and there’s not anything that really compels you to keep going once it’s done. It’s a fun and interesting experience, but, aside from seeing if you can speedrun the game, you won’t find any alternate takes to get the story from beginning to end. It’s fun, but it is short, so keep that in mind before you sit down to see what’s in the Multiverse. Spoiler: it’s some good storytelling, plenty of dark humor, and not as many choices as you’d expect.

What Lies In The Multiverse is a 2D platformer about a Kid accompanying an interdimensional traveler across universes as they seek to stop things from falling apart. It has wonderful aesthetics, an entertaining sincere narrative, and a fun universe-switching mechanic. Sadly, it lacks difficulty while restraining universes you can access throughout the game. Despite that, the reality is that this game will take you on an enjoyable and meaningful romp across realities.

All in all the game was very fun to play and the soundtrack had me zoning out in an instant, but the menu audio was a downside and broke the originality of the game. I would have liked to have been able to traverse more than 1 alternate universe per stage but only having 2 universes to select kept the fluidity of the game clean. Although the puzzles did have challenging aspects, they felt much the same after a while. To anyone wanting to play a new platformer or something fresh with a hilarious main story and dark side stories, I recommend picking this game up!

What Lies in the Multiverse is a short, but intense experience. Unfortunately, the fun is overshadowed by the loose control scheme and the fact that not even the latest patch fixes the issues of the corrupt save file. It is too bad, especially since the character design and the dialogues are quite inspired.

In conclusion, What Lies in the Multiverse is a fun platform game with some well thought out puzzles, just the script translation lets things down a little bit. What might be earnest in the original Spanish comes across a wee bit flat in English.

What Lies in the Multiverse pulls itself in every direction, trying to tell both a comedic and tragic story, which ultimately works against its favour. The gameplay is enjoyable throughout most of the journey but soon stagnates at an easy difficulty.
