So maybe Nintendo will never make a truly great Paper Mario ever again. Lucky for us, Moonsprout Games may have cracked the chemistry of what many fans actually want from the series in Bug Fables. If you’re still mad about Sticker Star, or you’re still reeling about Color Splash, do yourself a favor and nab this masterpiece as soon as possible, and see what all the buzz is about. Rest assured, that even if Origami King turns out to be a dud, 2020 will see at least one great game with Paper Mario mechanics…even if it doesn’t bear its name.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is the Paper Mario we’ve been waiting for for over fifteen years. It’s aesthetically pleasing to look at, the main characters have an amusing dynamic, and it has a fun turn-based battle system with real time elements and strategy. I urge not only Paper Mario fans to give it the chance it deserves, but anyone that has ever picked up an RPG.

At the end of the day, Bug Fables is wearing its inspirations proudly on it’s sleeve, and still adding on its own experiences that are both meaningful and fun for players. I had a blast with this game, and I highly recommend it to all kinds of players, whether they be looking to dive into a fun story with lovable characters, trying a more tangible, interactive combat-focused game, or just attempting a challenge. Bug Fables does not pull its punches, especially in it’s hard mode, but it gives such bountiful rewards, that I am simply left having to return the favor.

Bug Fables: El Retoño Eterno es un RPG activo en el que, además de encontrarnos con un sistema de combate totalmente divertido, también encontramos una historia interesante llena de personajes memorables y con marcadas personalidades que hacen que este título destaque por encima de otros.

Console versions are anticipated to be released late in the first quarter of 2020, so if that’s your jam, I suggest waiting for the game to be released on the system of your choice. But whatever you do, playing this game is a serious must. Bug Fables is a truly excellent spiritual successor to the original Paper Mario format. It’s made with loving care and is a lot of fun, and I cannot recommend it enough to those who want to re-live the first two Paper Mario games, or just anyone who wants to play a cute RPG with a lot of heart. 

Despite not expecting it at all going in, Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling might just be my favorite game that I've played so far this year. It's the proper template for a love-letter done right -- to not simply staple oneself to the blueprint of their inspiration and meekly play parakeet, but to establish a cohesive identity beyond that. So many parts of Bug Fables felt so wholly inspired and creative that calling it a clone of anything else feels like a disservice. I wouldn't just suggest Paper Mario fans give Bug Fables a shot (though they absolutely should), but any fans of RPGs, period. 

Bug Fables: The Eternal Sapling is a charming RPG that continually feels new, and the characters in your party all help to tell an interesting story. New skills and items help to reinvent the mechanics, and the medals also offer new ways to play and shake up the battles. Kabbu, Leif, and Vi’s journey is an epic one, but it’s one you’re going to want to experience. It looks gorgeous, it sounds brilliant, and you’ll never grow tired of its constantly evolving gameplay.

It's been a while since I've been so pleasantly surprised with a game. Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling takes inspiration from one of Nintendo's most popular RPG series, but it doesn't rely on the tropes and humour that made those games so beloved. All of the meticulous detail and care that's gone into the world, characters, and mechanics is on display here. Instead of being just a cardboard cutout copy of its roots, Bug Fables embellishes that established template with its own style and flair while improving things where need be, and as a result, it's one of the best and most honest tributes I've ever played.

If you love classic Paper Mario games, Bug Fables is an absolute must-have. It eases you in with everything you know and love from the Nintendo RPGs, then consistently impresses with new tweaks and innovations. It may lack the built-in charm of the Mario brand, but I fell in love with the characters and story just the same. I can confidently say it has earned a spot alongside the games that inspired its creation.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is a game that may look like other RPGs you’ve played, but it offers an entirely unique and memorable experience. The game’s quirky cast of characters fuels this adventure for more than 50 hours, while the narrative makes it easy to stay engaged and want to see this story through until the end. Now that it’s on consoles, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be playing it.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling, while a direct inspiration from the Paper Mario franchise, definitely has something to offer all on its own. The gameplay may become clunky or tedious at times, but more than makes up for it with its very cute environments to explore or charming characters to interact with. Players that loved Paper Mario and similar styled games will absolutely find something to love about this game.

Bug Fables es un juego muy recomendable que, por desgracia, está teniendo mucho mejor resultado entre el público que entre la crítica especializada, donde está pasando muy desapercibido. Pero sin duda alguna es uno de los mejores juegos de rol de este año… y de los últimos. Es muy divertido, accesible, complejo cuando hace falta, variado, y a nivel visual y sonoro cumple sin problemas. Esperemos que también salga en consolas en no demasiado tiempo, porque es un juego ejemplar dentro de su humildad.

Che avventura graziosa e leggera è Bug Fables The Everlasting Sapling! Ci siamo ritrovati a ridere di gusto dinanzi alle battute dei protagonisti, ad affezionarci ai loro modi di fare e a goderci ogni minuto speso ad esplorare fuori dal sentiero battuto. I ragazzi di Moonsprout Games hanno preso la formula alla base dei primi Paper Mario e l’hanno fatta propria, aggiungendoci abbondanti dosi di umorismo, una marea di missioni secondarie e collezionabili ed una colonna sonora incantevole, che non ci stancheremmo mai di ascoltare. Ci sono margini di miglioramento, soprattutto nelle sezioni platform e nel posizionamento dei punti di salvataggio, ma queste sono piccole macchie di colore su una tela altrimenti di rara bellezza. Chi l’avrebbe mai detto che un viaggi in compagnia di un’ape, uno scarabeo ed una falena sarebbe potuto essere così piacevole.

Solo nos queda concluir este análisis volviendo a reiterarnos con que le deis una oportunidad a este desconocido pero notable juego de rol. Y es que nos os dejéis engañar con esa estética tan especial, ya que detrás de este hay un muy buen juego, lleno de mecánicas variadas y divertidas, con unos acabados jugables muy bien logrados, y que puede llegar a unos niveles de profundidad tan hondos como uno quiera, pero que entra con facilidad a todo aquel que jamás se haya enfrentado a un juego de esta tipología.

Estoy muy satisfecho con Bug Fables. Con todos los grandes éxitos que nos están llegando ahora mismo a final de año, como Pokemon Espada y Escudo o Death Stranding, no tenemos que olvidarnos de que el mercado indie sigue todavía aquí. Si os gusta Paper Mario es imposible que no os recomiende su versión con bichos encantadores, pero incluso si tan solo sois fans de los RPG por turnos os insto a que le deis al menos una oportunidad.

Bug Fables: El Retoño Perdido es un buen juego RPG. Sin duda, es una experiencia muy agradable, que nos ofrece una buena dosis de combates por turnos, exploraciones y puzzles. Su punto más fuerte es lo accesible que es para todo el mundo. Su aspecto visual, sencillo y bonito, que recuerda a juegos como Paper Mario o alas películas de Pixar, como Bichos, hace que sea un título que entre por los ojos de entre los más jóvenes.

Nintendo hasn't made a true Paper Mario game since 2004's Thousand Year Door, and if you've always wished for another game like those first two in the series then you should probably check this out. It doesn't revolutionize the RPG formula, but Bug Fables shows that you don't need an Italian plumber to have fun playing with paper.

In conclusion, Bug Fables is a very good action RPG which you’ll want to keep playing for ages. If The Everlasting Sapling subtitle is a hint that this is the first of a series, we look forward to a sequel.

Bright, bold and colourful. Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling adds another dimension to turn-based battles and brings platforming, puzzles and heart to a worthwhile adventure. The art-style was not to my taste but it fits the subject matter perfectly. There is a lot of game here for your money, especially if you want to see it all. Now bug off and get tucked into the game.

Although there are some slight downsides to combat, the general atmosphere of Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling on Xbox One is phenomenal. The art style is downright lovely and the music feels like something made by Nintendo. “Defiant Root” could be a desert theme from Super Mario, and that’s a great thing. Unfortunately, its biggest downsides are possibly the most unique things about Paper Mario, and perhaps Bug Fables would have been even greater if it took a few more risks. Despite this, Bug Fables is a wonderful, child-friendly RPG with a solid story, great music, and lovely visuals. If you’re looking for something to bring you back to your childhood, this is a must-play.

Everyone that is excited over the prospect of the upcoming Paper Mario: The Origami King needs to pick this up. While Sticker Star and Colour Splash took the series in quite unwelcomed directions, this fully embraces the original. The combat system keeps things constantly engaging, the world is inviting, and the trio of main characters utterly charming. This is a world that deserves to be further explored and returned to, and it will hopefully see future instalments. The Origami King has some genuine competition here.

A bit of a triumph, Bug Fables is a superbly polished independent tribute to the first two Paper Mario games – but that's not to say it doesn't have its own, strong identity. The sheer familiarity is a little bit wearying at times – seriously, it's like it's been traced over in places – but Paper Mario with the serial numbers filed off is still a very good time. There's plenty to see and do, a rather compulsive card game to play and hidden secrets all over the place. Add all this silky-smooth performance, a splendid soundtrack and turn-based combat that's never less than engaging and you've got a surefire winner here. Maybe now people will quit "bugging" Nintendo for a throwback Paper Mario. Pun intended. (Sorry.)

Not that you have to have to have played a Paper Mario game to appreciate it though, as Bug Fables is one of the best role-players of the year so far and proof that even when you’re copying someone else’s style of game there’s plenty of scope to create something unique and original of your own.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling è un omaggio grazioso alla mitica saga di Paper Mario, grazie al caratteristico look "di cartone" e a un gameplay a turni molto classico. Purtroppo però i personaggi, per quanto simpatici, non hanno assolutamente il fascino di quelli Nintendo, cosa che unita a una realizzazione visiva altalenante e un gameplay non sempre all'altezza mette il titolo di Moonsprout Games in una posizione scomoda. Potrà sicuramente essere apprezzato dai fan di Paper Mario a patto che mastichino l'inglese, ma come gioco a sé stante fatica a sostenersi.

One of the issues that people have with some of the more recent Mario RPG titles is that they've become gimmicky and rather shallow as a consequence. Bug Fables is nowhere near as refined as Nintendo's efforts, but they also represent a back-to-basics approach to the mechanics and structure of these games. For many people that will be appealing, and Bug Fables is indeed an appealing effort by a small team. It would be great to see the team come back with something a little more refined with a second outing.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is an intriguing and beautiful RPG, paying homage to classic Paper Mario games. Some areas, such as the dialogue, feel rushed, but there's a well thought out storyline and plenty of side quests and mini-games to keep you entertained.

Qual é o problema então? É uma questão pertinente, é possível não se gostar de um jogo mesmo reconhecendo o seu valor; é possível adorar um jogo mesmo reconhecendo a sua falta de qualidade. Neste caso, Bug Fables é um jogo fenomenal, repleto de conteúdo, com personagens e enredo bem estruturados, e um combate viciante. No fundo, o jogo é uma carta de amor a uma série que não dá o que os fãs pedem.
